In 2025, at “Bodegas Mamerto de la Vara” we celebrate a very special milestone: 85 years of history. This anniversary not only celebrates decades of tradition, but also the effort and dedication that have made our winery a benchmark in the sweet wine sector. Since its beginnings in Andalusia Region, Spain, each stage has been marked by passion, commitment to quality and the ability to adapt to changing times.
A START WITH STRONG ROOTS
Our Winery was founded in 1940 in Andalusia, (Spain) when Mamerto de la Vara Pérez set out to produce quality aperitifs and vermouths. It was then that the brands ‘Dulcamaro’ and ‘Corinto y Oro’ were born. Today, the ‘Corinto’ vermouth remains faithful to the original formula of the forties, keeping intact the essence and legacy that have defined our trajectory.
A STRATEGIC MOVEMENT TOWARDS GROWTH
In 1945, the winery moved its operations to Valencia City (Spain), establishing itself in the Grao Distric in the Port area. This move allowed it to extend the scope of its winemaking and laid the foundations for future expansion.
SECOND GENERATION: MODERNISATION AND EXPANSION
The incorporation of the second generation in 1958 marked the beginning of a period of modernisation for the winery. In 1968, a new plant was built in the village of Quatretonda, Valencia, designed specifically for the production of mistelles. With a capacity of 13,000 hectolitres and advanced machinery. This new winery played a key role in strengthening our production capacity.
DIVERSIFICATION AND INTERNATIONALISATION WITH THE THIRD GENERATION
In 1980, the arrival of the third generation brought a new era of diversification and internationalisation. In 1984, the winery moved to a new location in the Grao of Valencia area, where an innovative Bag in Box packaging line and cold stabilisation equipment were implemented. This period was also marked by the expansion of our range of sweet wines and the strengthening of our exports to international markets.
CENTRALISATION AND MODERNISATION IN CHESTE (VALENCIA)
In 1997, we took a fundamental step in our history by centralising all our operations in a single plant in Cheste, Valencia. This strategic change allowed us to unify our manufacturing, production and export processes in a single space, which not only modernised our facilities, but also reinforced our commitment to quality at every stage of production.
INNOVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY: COMMINTMENT TO THE FUTURE
In recent years, our winery has continued to consolidate its commitment to innovation and sustainability. In 2019, a new bottling line with a capacity of 3,200 bottles per hour was inaugurated, allowing us to significantly improve the efficiency of our process. A year later, all the interior tanks were renovated, replacing them with stainless steel and expanding our production capacity to 40,000 hectolitres. In addition, also in 2020, we installed a photovoltaic system with a capacity of 75 kW/h, reaffirming our commitment to the environment and to a more sustainable future.
RECENT RECOGNITION AND ACHIEVEMENTS
In 2023, we achieved IFS Progress Food accreditation, a recognition that reflects our continuous efforts to maintain the highest standards of quality and food safety, thus ensuring excellence in all our products.
A LIVING LEGACY
Today, our winery is still run by the third generation of the family, working with the same commitment and dedication that inspired our founder. We look to the future with confidence, combining tradition with innovation to continue to offer wines and winemaking that reflect our heritage.
